The women of Dhaka ran on Hatirjheel during Omera LPG Dhaka Women’s Marathon 2017 marking International Women’s Day!
Omera LPG honors women from all walks of life. Keeping that in mind Everest Academy and Imago Sports Management Limited organized the marathon of which Omera LPG was the proud Title sponsor.
Omera LPG Dhaka Women’s Marathon 2017, the only all women marathon was held on Friday, March 10, 2017. It was undertaken to celebrate International Women’s Day and for a safer Dhaka for women. More than 500 participants ran in the 10KM marathon in Hatirjheel, Dhaka. 110 participants finished the race within the 90 minute mark. Mirona Khatun, of Bangladesh Navy became the winner. Moushumi Akther got the 2nd position, and Kristine Locke, a foreigner secured the 3rd position. The rest of the participants, who covered the 90-minute marathon, also received honorary certificates from the organisers.
Celebrities, actresses, athletes, women cricketers and footballers, foreigners, professionals and female students from universities, colleges and schools participated in the event. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the competition while Honorable Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu along with honorable Mrs. Dilruba Chowdhury – Director of East Coast Group, Tanjil Chowdhury – Managing Director of East Coast Group, Mrs. Munia Chowdhury – Director of East Coast Group, Tanzeem Chowdhury – AGM, Omera Petroleum Limited handed over prizes to the winners.
Omera LPG Dhaka Women’s Marathon 2017, has been widely covered in National Media. Twenty TV channels alongside most popular newspapers like, Prothom-Alo, Bangladesh Protidin, Kaler Kantho & Daily Star have published news about this event in their main circulation.
Bangladesh Athletic Federation, Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense, Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation provided necessary support to undertake the event.
